Yorkshire County Cricket Club owns and operates the cricket ground and they initially intended to use it for 6 different sports i.e., cricket, rugby, football, tennis, bowls, and cycling. However, the venue is majorly used for cricket and rugby. The first test match played on the Headingley cricket ground was in July 1899 between England and Australia. In September 1973, the first ODI was hosted on the sports ground and the match was between England and West Indies.
