Wankhede Stadium is a cricket stadium located in Mumbai, India. It serves as a home ground for Mumbai Cricket Team and Mumbai-based IPL franchise, Mumbai Indians. Following the establishment of the venue in 1974, it had a seating capacity of over 55,000. Though, after the renovations happened in 2010 for the hosting of the 2011 Cricket World Cup, the seating capacity turned to over 33,000. Considering the playing field area of the stadium, it has one of the smallest grounds in the world. Wankhede Stadium has witnessed many historic moments including India’s win in the 2011 Cricket World Cup Finals against Sri Lanka and the last match of Sachin Tendulkar’s international career. The first ODI played in Wankhede Stadium was in 1987 and to date, the venue continues to host many international as well as national matches on its soil.
