In international women's cricket, Sri Lanka is represented by its women's national cricket team. The team is organized by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), a full member of the International Cricket Council, and is one of eight teams competing in the ICC Women's Championship. In 1997, Sri Lanka played in its first One Day International match against the Netherlands. Later that year, Sri Lanka took part in the 1997 World Cup against India. Since then, the team has competed in every World Cup, with its best result coming in 2013 when it placed fifth. However, even after participating in every World Cup tournament, the only best performance shown by the team was in the 2013 season, finishing at the fifth position. The current ranking of the Sri Lanka Women’s team in WODI is 10th and 8th in WT20I.
