South Africa National Cricket Team gained their Test status way back early than many other national teams. The team was the third in a row to play Test cricket. The first match of the South African Cricket Team was against England National Cricket Team, that too in the year 1889 at port Elizabeth. The game was a two-match series and South Africa lost the series by a margin of 2-0.

With time, the team grew strong and proved their performances in several matches played in the 20th century. In the ODIs as well, the South Africa National team won more than 60 percent of the total matches they played. Speaking of the current ICC rankings of the national teams, South Africa stands 3rd in Test Cricket, 3rd in T20Is, and 6th in ODIs.
