The bid for this new IPL team happened on October 25, 2021. The previous owner of the Rising Pune Supergiant team i.e., RPSG Group bought Lucknow Super Giants with a bidding amount worth INR 7,090 crore.

The home ground of the Lucknow-based team is Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium, Lucknow. To date, no IPL matches have been hosted on the home ground of Lucknow Super Giants. But the stadium has witnessed several international tournaments. The team made their first IPL appearance in the 2022 IPL season where they were able to hit the playoff round. Unfortunately, the team was knocked out by Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Eliminator Match.
